If you are interested in getting to know the real Canarian style of life and to see the typical rural part of Tenerife you will need to hire a car to be able to apreciate the real beauty of this tropical island called Tenerife.
Tenerife is not just about beaches and swimming pools and sea side resorts, there are some beautiful little rural villages up in the hills that are well worth visiting in order ot appreciate the true side of Tenerife, away from the hustle and bustle of the touristic areas.
Ruigomez is just one of those small village and is located near to the village of El Tanque in the north of Tenerife and is at al altitude of about 850 meters above sea level.
It is a tiny rural village and only has a population of around 390 habitants. You will find it amongst the narrow country roads between El Tanque and Icod de los Vinos.
If you are not careful you will drive throught it without realising it but we believe that it is worth stopping for a while and have a good look round its quaint little streets of old houses, some in ruins.
There is a small church with its square that is worth looking at and if you go by on a Sunday you might be lucky enough to take part in the church service.
This agricultural village has a nice feel to it as you look round, and you can see how the local canarians live.
Do your self a favour and take a few days to tour round the island of Tenerife to really see what it has to offer. You will be very surprised and delighted.
